- 2 candidates 1.5 hours
- 3 candidates 1.75 hours
Intermediate
- 2 candidates 1.75 hours
Advanced
- 1 candidate 2 hours
International Ballet Competition

Do you have a promising young student who may be ready in 2014?

Eligibility At commencement date of competition:
- Minimum age 15
- Maximum age 19
- CCA Cecchetti Intermediate examination
- Be a student and non-professional classical ballet dancer
We ask that our Committees look for those young dancers who could represent the CCA in the next competition in 2014. Competitors are adjudicated by members of the Executive Board. Scholarships are awarded to assist in travel, entry fees, and tuition.
Competition Location – 2014
We are pleased to announce information about the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet 2014 Competition:
The Competition is to be hosted by Cecchetti USA. The competition will be held in Richmond, Virginia August 7-9, 2014 with arrival date for competitors and coaches of Sunday, August 3, 2014. Richmond is a lovely and historical city located within a few hours of Washington DC.
Classes will be located at the professional studios of Richmond Ballet, performances to be held at the beautiful Carpenter Theater at Richmond Center Stage. All participants will stay at the Crowne Plaza Richmond Downtown hotel located within a very short walk to both locations.
CUSA will concurrently hold its annual summer residential course at Richmond Ballet. We look forward to seeing you all in 2014. More details will follow as the planning process continues.
CCA Competitor News
Two of our aspiring competitors from the 2011 competition have begun their professional journey. Jennifer Bobo, holder of the Enrico Cecchetti Diploma, accepted a trainee position with Texas Ballet Theatre; and Hailee Karam is now a trainee with the Louisville Ballet. We congratulate Betty Mitchell, LCCA, and Monique Sgro, FCCA, and wish both girls the very best.
Tragedy, Loss, Hope, Triump

Although this thank you may be a bit late, we want to share with you what the first year in our new studio looks like. We have made a video that tells our story of tragedy, loss, hope and triumph much more expressively than we could do through words alone.Thanks to you, we are not only back in business but thriving. Your generosity has inspired us to “pay it forward.”Our show this year, entitled “Our Town”,was a benefit concert with all proceeds (over $2200) going to The Spotlight dance studio in Creston, Iowa. They were hit by a tornado in April and are still repairing and restoring what was lost.
We hope you enjoy the video. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. It is appreciated and will never be forgotten. If you’re ever in Joplin, please give me a call and stop by the studio. You’ll be an honored guest!

In Memoriam
Alzine Cuppett
Alzine Marie Straub Cuppett, Founder & Artistic Director Emeritus of Cuppett Performing Arts Center in Vienna, VA, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 24th at her home in Haymarket, VA. During the span of her 50-year career, Mrs. Cuppett was mentor and role-model to thousands of students who shared her love of dance and the performing arts.
Mrs. Cuppett, age 85, is survived by her six children: Candace Cuppett Payne of Gainesville, VA; Joyce Cuppett Miller of Annapolis, MD; Reid Thomas (and Kelli) Cuppett of Key Largo, FL; Gary Michael Cuppett of Leesburg, VA; Gregory John (and Bonnie) Cuppett of Haymarket, VA; and Amy Cuppett (and David) Stiverson of Centreville, VA. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Monica McGowan
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Monica McGowan, who taught Caribbean dance at the CCA Summer Program for many years passed away at her home in Jamaica on August 22 after having suffered a stroke at the end of May. Monica was a founding member and former principal dancer of the National Dance Theater Company (NDTC) of Jamaica.
She was a long-time member of the CCA who taught many summers at our International Summer Program. She was a cherished friend of many and a very gracious woman who will be sorely missed.
