Competitors

Competitors and teachers are advised to thoroughly read and follow the authorized Competition Guidelines.

Eligibility

The competition will be comprised of a junior and senior division.

  • Minimum age 14 and maximum 16 at the commencement of the competition for the junior division and minimum age 17 maximum age 20 at  commencement of competition for the senior division.
  • Have passed Cecchetti Intermediate (CCA Elementary) exam at junior level and Advanced 1 (CCA Intermediate) exam at the senior level, (or equivalent level nomenclature used by each organization).
  • Be a student and not a professional dancer (i.e. anyone who is employed as a full time dancer with a professional dance company. This includes dancers who are not currently employed but have been in the past).
  • Entries are only accepted through the audition process of CICB member organizations.
  • Prospective competitors may only apply once, through the audition process of one CICB member organization.
  • Coaches should contact their CICB member organization for teacher qualification requirements to enter competitors. 
Content to be Adjudicated for each division
  • One classical ballet class, on stage, that is adjudicated and open to the general public by admission.
  • One contemporary class, to be observed by adjudicators but not marked, to be seen on stage and open to the general public by admission.
  • Classical ballet solo, from approved repertoire, on stage.
  • Solo of own choice, contemporary, or modern genre (hereafter known as contemporary). Barefoot or foot wear; choreographer’s choice.
  • Performance length of contemporary solos is not to exceed 2 minutes.
  • Competitors will perform both solos, and adjudicated ballet class, before any selections are made for the finals.
  • Competitors to perform solos in order of their performance number.

  • $5,000 USD Maestro Enrico Cecchetti Award: to be awarded to the top dancer in the senior division
  • $3,500 USD Junior Gold Award: to be awarded to the top dancer in the junior division
  • $2,000 USD Senior Silver

  • $1,000 USD Senior Bronze
  • $1,000 USD Junior Bronze
  • $500 USD Senior Contemporary Award
  • $500 USD Junior Contemporary Award

Costumes
  • Costumes worn for the solos are the responsibility of each competitor, with footwear appropriate to the dance.
  • Classical grooming and attire is expected for the classical class (solid color).
  • Costumes and dance attire should not be worn in public.
Technical Specification
  • Specifications of the stage will be sent in advance by the host including: Stage dimension, Backdrop/Cyclorama color, Wings, Rake, Sound system.
  • Competitors are responsible for supplying good quality sound tracks for solos and variations.
  • No adjustments to soundtracks will be possible at the venue.
Coaches/Rehearsal Schedule
  • Each organization shall receive one complimentary ticket per competitor to all paid events to be given to one coach per competitor by the team manager.  
  • Non-finalists receive a complimentary ticket to the final event.
  • Competitors shall have equal access to rehearsals in the studio and on stage as determined by the host organization.
  • All coaches must provide their own rehearsal music, CCA staff will be available to help with audio equipment.
  • All coaches will sign and adhere to the guidelines as established by CICB.
  • Scholarship Awarders will be invited to observe a minimum of one or more rehearsals for the adjudicated classes at the discretion of the host.
Guidelines for team Managers/Coaches/Competitors
  • Each member organization will appoint a team manager.
  • The team manager will be responsible for collating information regarding competitors and coaches.
  • All coaches, team managers and competitors/legal guardians will sign and adhere to the guidelines.
  • Competitors under 18 must have a responsible adult as chaperone throughout the competition.
  • It is suggested that there is a minimum of one chaperone per 8 children.
  • Each organization will ensure that all competitors have proper documents for travel.
  • All information regarding the competition will be sent to CICB delegates and team managers for dissemination in a timely fashion.
Adjudicated Class
  • Parameters to be determined by CICB and shall be non-syllabus with the addition of the first set of port de bras in the class for juniors and the second set in the class for seniors. The host organization will ensure the faculty is apprised of the guidelines.
  • The classes will be taught prior to the presentation on stage.
  • In the adjudicated class, groups should be rotated.
  • Class will be taken in ballet slippers and female identifying competitors will change into pointe shoes for the pointe section.
  • The teacher should not be one of the adjudicators.

Registration

Registration is only available to pre-selected candidates and will be completed by the Team Manager of each organization.

Candidate registration will consist of:

  • Form submissions
  • Copy of Intermediate or Advanced 1 qualification certificate
  • Bio submission (200-word maximum)
  • Headshot 300 ppi (100mm X 100m)
  • Provide your Instagram handle
  • Upload of 2 music files in the specified format (TBA)
  • Payment of application fee
  • Submit a copy of bank transfer receipt for application fee payment
